“I have a tiny book of "Aesop’s Fables" on my shelf, and I read one or two every week.  Partly to grow wiser, partly because my reading level peaked in third grade. But honestly, those little stories hit harder as an adult than they ever did as a kid.

One of them is called "The Fox and the Cat".  A fox brags to a cat about knowing a hundred tricks to escape hunters. The cat admits she knows only one: climbing a tree. When the hunters come, the cat runs up a tree and survives but the fox, overthinking, gets caught.

Most data teams build warehouses like the fox: hundreds of pipelines, countless systems, no unifying structure.  Overcomplicating/overdeveloping something that should be simple and clear towards the business.…”
